Taking down each wall of your home and adding more insulation would be an extremely time-consuming task, and the time you take out of each day to complete the project could end up not being worth the savings. However, a good solution to this problem is blown insulation. Blown insulation is projected through a hole in the wall to fill cavities in the wall that need additional insulation. Adding insulation to walls and sealing ductwork can save up to 20% of your energy bill.

Adding blown-in insulation to your home is relatively simple. First, you remove strips of siding. Work in small sections with a pry bar and you should be done relatively quickly. The next step is to locate the studs in the wall with a stud finder so you don’t accidentally drill through them. After finding and marking the studs, turn off electricity to the circuits in the wall. It’s important to cut off electricity when drilling into any wall to ensure no electrical accidents happen. After your electricity is turned off, mark and drill your access holes into which you will blow in the insulation. Now comes the moment of truth; set up the blower and blow in the insulation. Make sure to follow the instructions that came with the blower  to ensure the job is done properly and safely. Once the insulation is in, you’re almost done. The last step of the process is to plug the holes to prevent anything getting into your wall and causing damage. Pop in the plastic plugs, glue them into place and replace the siding to end your energy-saving project.
