Good News Tulsa: Banks Finally Feeling Optimistic on Home Loan Credit

Securing a home loan for your Oklahoma dream home is becoming closer to a reality in 2012. There’s a new mood entering the boardroom of many banks in terms of giving out looser credit for home loans. A FICO survey of bank risk professionals showed that feelings on loan repayment and credit availability are more positive this quarter than last quarter. The Professional Risk Managers’ International Association conducted the survey for FICO.

FICO is a leader in the credit scoring system and found that fewer lenders are expecting delinquency to rise on many kinds of loans – home loans, car loans, and small business loans. Sentiments on student loans and credit cards were also examined in the survey.

The uphill climb is slow and careful one, but is definitely moving in the right direction. Unemployment is modestly falling which is great opportunity for bankers to start building confidence. The numbers of bankers expecting mortgage delinquencies to rise during the next six months decreased, and less expect increases in home equity line as well. Basically bankers are starting to trust that people will pay their bills.

There’s more good news! Lender Processing Service’s Mortgage Monitor report shows that mortgage delinquency was down 5% month-over-month and 14% since last year. The 90-plus delinquency rate is dropping, and foreclosure starts were down 15.2% since January. Lenders understand that making credit available for both consumers and business owners will help drive economic growth. This should be very exciting to those consumers and business owners. A majority of lenders believe that the housing market will continue to get stronger as the year goes on.

Get To Know the First Tee of Tulsa

The First Tee of Tulsa’s mission is simple: impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The program is definitely something the Tulsa community is very proud of. The program is more than teaching the game of golf, it’s teaching life lessons and using the game as a tool to do so. It’s also offering a sense of family to its members. Since it began in 2001, The First Tee of Tulsa has enrolled over 11,000 students!

The First Tee, a non-profit organization, is located at Mohawk Park Golf Course in Tulsa. They offer a year round program where students use the course to golf in spring, summer and fall. In winter, instructors visit area schools to teach the game of golf to students who probably would otherwise have never gotten that opportunity. Students 8-18 years of age are invited to participate and there are five levels of promotion they strive for: PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace. Every level addresses the appropriate golf skill and life skill for that age and ability.

The First Tee was founded by the Southern Hills Country Club Charitable Foundation. General Manager Nick Sidorakis and the SHCC Board of Governors worked tediously finding funds so that there is no cost to the participants. This is key in the overall goal of giving every Tulsa child the opportunity to experience the game of golf and its inherent values.

Tulsa’s Jobless Rate Plummets

The Tulsa metro area is feeling the benefits of a strengthening economy as their jobless rate has dropped in March. The rate dropped to 5.3% from 6.9% in February. This significant drop brought the rate to the lowest Tulsa had seen since December 2008, when it was 4.6%.

Even better news is that this drop was not tied to seasonal factors but rather cyclical factors. This is a definite sign of an improving and strengthening economy. “The trends are really exciting in Oklahoma at this point,” said Mark Snead, president and founder of RegionTrack Inc., a company offering regional economic forecasting and analysis services. “If you look at the state data, the number of unemployed really is falling rapidly, and at the same time the labor force is growing,” Snead said. “It’s really the best of both worlds.”
