Tulsa Philanthropist Inducted Into Oklahoma Hall of Fame
Recently, Tulsa philanthropist Suzanne Warren was inducted into the Oklahoma Heritage Association’s Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Warren gave a speech during the event at the Renaissance Hotel and said despite growing up in the east, she has grown to love making Tulsa home.
She adds, “The best surprise was meeting the people in Oklahoma. And what I have learned is that Oklahomans are exceptional people – caring, industrious, creative, smart, genuine, good neighbors – men and women who build international businesses and world-class hospitals, who care for their neighbors and the homeless. It is deeply satisfying to be included in a group of people who have been successful, and whose mission is to make a difference in their community and in Oklahoma.”
Warren has been actively involved in a variety of philanthropic causes in Tulsa for years. They include Tulsa’s arts and social services organizations. Warren was presented her award by her good friend Judy Kishner, who called her “remarkable.” Kishner told a story about Warren and her husband that illustrated her devotion to family and friends. She said that during an ice storm, “Suzanne and Bill got into their car, traveled two houses west and backed into my father’s (Henry Zarrow’s) driveway and took him to their house so he would not have dinner alone.”
The evening’s other inductees into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame were Stan Clark of Stillwater, founder of Eskimo Joe’s; Bart Conner of Norman, Olympic gold medal gymnast; Tom L. Ward of Edmond, co-founder of Chesapeake Energy Corp. and chairman and CEO of SandRidge Energy Inc; Lee R. West of Edmond, chief U.S. district judge for the Western District of Oklahoma; and Ronald H. White of Oklahoma City, co-founder of the American Society of Cardiovascular Interventionalists and Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
Edith Kinney Gaylord, a pioneer journalist and Oklahoma City philanthropist, was inducted posthumously. Accepting Gaylord’s award were her nieces Christy Gaylord Everest and Louise Gaylord Bennett, as well as Bob Ross, president of the Inasmuch Foundation and Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, which Gaylord established.
