Tips for First Time Tulsa Home Buyers

Do you feel like you’re finally in the perfect place to purchase your first home? Obviously it’s a huge decision, so doing your homework is very important. There once was a time when getting a mortgage for a new home was simple. Today the credit tightening continues. Banks are demanding documentation showing what you can actually afford. Don’t be scared. With the right process and people giving you advice you can be a homeowner.

First thing to do is look at your credit. Many people have never seen their credit report and have no idea what their score is. If there is an error on the report, it must be fixed before you try purchasing a home. You might find dings on your score that shouldn’t be there, or some that are easy to get removed.

If you haven’t already, definitely start saving. A down payment does not come easily. You might need to be able to put 20% down, or try and find a loan program that lets you put down less. Make a budget and see how far it takes you. See where you are spending extra money in your daily life, and how far saving that money could actually go.

Paint a mental picture of your home. Envisioning your ideal home will help you once you start your search. Look online, in magazines and around the neighborhood you want to live in. Even online tools like Pinterest.com can be very helpful. Make a pin board with images and videos you can reference later.

Of course also make sure you are working with an experienced team of real estate professionals (we just happen to know of some amazing ones). The scope of this purchase requires help from informed and educated people whom you can trust. All of these tips will ensure your experience is a positive one.
