Oklahoma State Football Looking for Another Outstanding Season

Oklahoma State football fans, coaches and players have a lot to be proud of from last season. The Cowboys finished with an impressive 12-1 record, defeated Stanford in overtime in the Fiesta Bowl, finished third in the AP poll and head Coach Mike Gundy secured a new $30 million eight-year contract.

The past year has been an absolute whirlwind, but now the Cowboys need to face the fact that they are losing two first-round picks from their offence, and they will likely have a good deal of rebuilding to do.

Coach Gundy is putting his faith into freshman Wes Lunt as quarterback. Gundy feels confident in his choice, saying, “What makes me feel good about Wes Lunt is that he has a skill set that is well-suited for what we try to accomplish offensively and he also has a calm demeanor about him.”

Gundy also has a personal connection with Lunt because he himself was a freshman quarterback when he started for the Cowboys in 1986. They are also both are fortunate enough to have a talented team around them. Thanks to players like Joseph Randle, Jeremy Smith, Lane Taylor, Jonathan Rush and many others, the quarterback will not have to play the game by himself.

It’s no mystery that Gundy coaches successful players – at any experience level. Many of his former players have ended up in the NFL, including Markelle Martin who was recently drafted by the Tennessee Titans. Although Martin will undoubtedly be a challenge to replace, Gundy has confidence in his choice of free safety Daytawion Lowe. Lavocheya Cooper and Zack Craig are expected to be the big-time game-makers for the season.
