OKC Thunder Hire Darko Rajakovic for Tulsa D-League Team
The Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team have hired Darko Rajakovic to be the head coach of their D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers. Tulsa home owners love being able to watch indisputable basketball talent right in their own backyard, and many team members go on to play for Thunder. Oklahoma City’s first-round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Reggie Jackson, played one game for Tulsa last year while 2010 first round pick Lazar Hayward played three games in the D-League.
Rajakovic will join the 66ers after having been the head coach of the Torrelodones in Spain for the past three years. Rajakovic succeeds Dale Osbourne and and Nate Tibbets in Tulsa, as they were both promoted to assistant coaches with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Cleveland Cavaliers respectively. Rajakovic is no stranger to the NBA, however. He is a former assistant general manager of the San Antonio Spurs, and Thunder general manager Sam Presi has known him since those days.
The hope is that the 66ers can turn things around this year and make it to the playoffs. Last year, the team failed to qualify after finishing 23-27 last season. That landed them in sixth place in the NBADL Western Conference.
2012-2013 season tickets are on sale now, and you will receive OKC Thunder tickets with each season ticket purchased.
